Sports Massage Singapore
What is sports massage?
Sports massage, often confused with deep tissue massage, is a therapy which is mainly used to help maintain an individual’s health and optimises the body’s performance. It is a massage therapy which focuses on overused areas of your body due to either overuse or aggressive movements from sports.
Why sports massage?
Sports massage is a tool that physiotherapists in Singapore use to aid in recovery and injury prevention. The aim of a deep tissue sports massage is to reduce muscle tension, promote blood flow to the muscle to remove lactic acid waste, tackle nagging pain, and speed up muscle recovery. An individual who did sports massage should leave feeling more flexible, more mobile, less stiff, and more rested.
How are sports massages in Singapore done?
Unlike a full body massage, the sports massage therapist will focus on specific areas of the body that require treatment. During a sports massage, most sports massage therapists will predominantly use myofascial release techniques, trigger point work and soft tissue release to stretch localised areas of tendons and muscles that are tight and pain. Some massage therapists will either use their hands or a deep tissue massager to target muscles during a sports massage.
Here, we will start by doing a postural and physical assessment of you. During which, we will identify the areas which we will focus on during the treatment. During the treatment, all you need to do is relax and let our therapists do all the work.
What's the difference between a sports massage and deep tissue massage in Singapore?
A deep tissue massage is a generic term for a manual massage treatment to reduce areas of tension over the body, while a sports massage moves more deeply into the muscles to target nagging pain and aid with recovery.
When do I need sports massage?
A sports massage is useful for:
- Event preparation – If you have a race to run or a sporting event coming up, a sports massage a day or two before can help you perform at your best.
- Recovery – After your sporting event, a session can help with recovery, remove the tightness and tiredness from your muscles and prime your muscles back so that you can train for your next one without fearing injuries.
- Rehabilitation – After the acute phase of your injury, a sports massage can help promote blood flow to the injured area and help with the healing process.
- Maintenance – This is for everyone. If you just have stiffness or tightness in your body due to sitting in front of your computer daily, a sports massage session will be beneficial for you.
Am I a suitable candidate for sports massage?
Having to do sports is not a prerequisite for doing a sports massage therapy. It is a treatment that focuses on improving your flexibility, reduce fatigue and muscle endurance. It is also part of a larger treatment to help you prevent injuries.
For most of us, even if we are not an athlete, we are at risk of sports injuries. This is because our sedentary lifestyles in Singapore make it more likely that we get injured when we do exercise. Not only does a sports massage session help prevent those injuries, it helps prepare our body and mind to perform optimally during our daily activities.
